Off the Dock with Louise Bishoff

Although Louise Bishoff had previously shown her dogs in conformation, she didn’t step into the performance arena until she tried dock diving in 2019. The Greendale, Indiana, resident was introduced to the sport when her daughter, Megan, and Megan’s Icelandic Sheepdog, Atlas, started diving in 2018. Everyone was so friendly and supportive that Louise decided to join with her dog, Salem.

Facility Deep Dive: The Gated Dock

From dock diving to obedience, canine hydrotherapy to rehabilitation work, The Gated Dock offers a wide breadth of services for canine enthusiasts of northern Ohio and beyond. Marie Buckingham launched her Shelby, Ohio, outdoor facility in 2015, after realizing trips to Pennsylvania to train were not sustainable for the long-term. What started as a 32’ pool with a 24’ dock quickly expanded into the purchase of an additional 40’ regulation size pool as friends and family came to train, play and swim with their four-legged friends.

Competitor Profile: Off the Dock with Angela Alexander

Angela Alexander of Bell Buckle, Tennessee, first fell in love with dock diving when she tried it out with her German shepherd, Mara, over seven years ago. However, it was the purchase of an 8-week-old bloodhound puppy named Kari in 2019 that took Angela’s love for the sport to the next level. Angela and Kari have eagerly explored all that North America Diving Dogs has to offer, from dock diving to air retrieving, and even trying their hand at hydro dash this year.

Facility Deep Dive: Las Cruces Dock Diving

When Victor Villalobos, Shannon Murray, Nancy Chanover and Steve Stochaj met over 25 years ago while training search and rescue dogs, they never could have imagined where their love for canines would take them. Working in the fields of marketing, advertising, astronomy and electrical engineering, respectively, the four were ready for a change and jumped on the chance to rent out the empty space they were using to train and turn it into the dock diving facility of their dreams.

Many different options and treatment modalities are available for treating injuries in dogs. It is extremely important to work with a veterinary rehabilitation professional. A skilled, certified therapist will tailor a treatment plan best suited for the healing stage of the dog and their unique lifestyle.
