“We listened as competitors requested a softer bumper for their dogs and a smaller size for lap dogs. Safety is always our top priority and Atlas designed a prototype that met all our needs,” said Kristin Powell. “We will be rolling out the bumper to facilities first mid-August. Orders will open to competitors the beginning of September. (available on the Atlas website.)”
To ease the transition from the previous bumpers to the new official Atlas Outfitters design, facilities will have a 6 month transition period, starting at the beginning of the 2024 season (9/14/2023) and must start using them by March 1, 2024. During this time, facilities can purchase and start to use the new bumpers. Facilities must choose which bumper they are going to use at their event (must pick either old or new style for each event) and must post it in the details section of their event so competitors can make an educated choice when entering AR & HD. Because of the timing of the new release, this bumper will not be used at regionals or nationals until 2024.
The new firehose design means that they’re softer and gentler on your dog's mouth. The Atlas Outfitters unofficial air retrieve bumper has been on sale for over two years, with owners reporting improved confidence, drive, and safety when training. Many dogs already use an Atlas Outfitters bumper for distance jumps and have a strong drive for them, making it easy to cross over. The firehose design of our new bumpers is also antimicrobial, meaning you can easily rinse it off in the pool and use it for multiple dogs.

Jessica von Clausburg, owner of Atlas Outfitters, fell into dog sports by accident close to a decade ago when they welcomed Atlas into their family, a Belgian Malinois and namesake of the brand. “It didn’t take long for us to realize how tough our dogs were on equipment and how few quality products were on the market.
